Lesley Atkinson is a criminal defense attorney at Atkinson Law, serving clients throughout Maryland from the firm's Baltimore and Bel Air offices. With two decades of courtroom experience, Lesley has built a practice grounded in preparation, direct communication, and a steady commitment to protecting clients' rights at every stage of a case. He can often be found in the Baltimore County Courts and Harford County Courts, where he regularly appears on behalf of clients.

Education and Bar Admission

Lesley earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of South Carolina in 1996 before going on to law school at the University of Baltimore School of Law, where he received his Juris Doctor in May 2002. That July, he sat for the Maryland Bar Exam and was formally admitted to the Maryland Bar on December 17, 2002. Lesley is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, and previously held admission to the District of Columbia Bar, where his status is currently inactive.

Practice Focus

Over more than 20 years as a practicing attorney, Lesley has represented thousands of clients across Maryland in matters including criminal defense, DUI and jailable traffic offenses, drug crimes, theft, and assault. His practice also extends to peace orders and domestic violence protective orders. Clients turn to Lesley for cases where the stakes are high and the path forward isn't always clear — and he approaches each one with the same close attention to the facts and the law.

In addition to his criminal defense work, Lesley represents clients in personal injury matters, including cases arising from auto accidents. For clients dealing with the aftermath of a serious accident, he brings the same thorough, client-focused approach he applies to his criminal cases — working to hold the responsible party accountable and pursue the recovery his clients need to move forward.

Lesley also has a particular focus on serving Maryland's veteran community. Having seen how often combat veterans return home dealing with PTSD, physical trauma, homelessness, mental illness, or substance abuse, he's committed to making sure this population — which he believes society too often fails to adequately support — has access to strong legal representation and advocacy.
